I have just learned this the hard way. Wasn’t even thinking. Put my backpack in my trunk and set my keys down inside. Shut it and bam! Locked out! The trunk can only be opened from the key or inside. Sadly, the doors stay locked when you pop the trunk. I did hit unlock, but didn’t open a door so it locked after 25 seconds. 45 minutes later, Mom showed up with the spare key. Good news though! The 14 Civic (one year later) brings back a trunk release on the trunk lid!

Literally did the same exact thing with he same key. I was at the park one evening driving my RC car, and I accidentally locked my key in my trunk. I had to walk home, grab the valet key, walk back and unlock my car. Ever since then, I always keep my valet key in my wallet.

The perks of having an R129 SL is that the unlock is 1) Infrared, so you have to be close just to unlock it and 2) it doesn’t lock itself again after any length of time.

My car won’t even lock from the outside if the key is detected on the inside.
I feel your pain though.

That’s actually a really good idea. Think I might do that for a little bit until I get something to hide it in under the car

Obviously I cant be the only one to do it if they added the button back for 2014!
Just one of those terribly dumb things that really is a PITA

Damn glad my car won’t lock the trunk if it senses the keys in there/nearby.

That was the saddest part... I heard the doors relock but wasn’t fast enough to open one. There was an audible “NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO” as I fell to my knees

One of those features you don’t really think you need until its too late

Bummer. One thing I have a habit of doing with my Magnum (because I sadly only have one key for it) is I’ll leave a door open, or even just roll the window down when I have to park it or go under the hood or whatever. The rear door is an electric latch as well, so I have to keep a rag over it when the battery is unplugged otherwise I have to crawl through the back to plug the battery back in (I knew about it, and somehow still managed to screw that up last summer).

Yup. been there, done that. Now I am smart enough to realize the trunk is a dangerous place for keys due to my tendency to close it.

I have dumb mechanical locks. Deal with it.

You have to deal with it, I certainly don’t.

Oddly enough not all modern cars are like this. My neighbor has a Kia Optima with keyless entry/start. She started her car and put her bag in the car and closed the door, when she went to put her daughter in the car the car had locked itself while it was running. I watched her panic for about 15 minutes until she called AAA to come open the car, I left for work but she told me they got it open for her for a small fee.
Seems pretty stupid for a car with keyless entry.

My mom did the same thing with her car last week. What I found odd was that even though the key was in the car’s interior, the keyless entry system wouldn’t unlock the when the buttons on the door handles were pressed.
I guess it’s not that surprising since one has to be right next to the door for the keyless entry to work from the outside, but I just found it odd that there is apparently no way for my mom’s car to detect the key inside the trunk.

It’s easy.

From what I’ve seen those keyless entry systems usually are smarter than that...
It’s a serious annoyance

What happens when you lock your keys AND your wallet in the car?

Let’s not discuss how many times I’ve managed to lock my Jeep with the keys still in the ignition. (It’s an old XJ, and while about half the time it will ding at you and not lock if you’ve left the keys, the other half of the time it’s like, meh, whatever, and just locks you out.)

also dont lock your keys in the car with the engine running.

Have any pics of it? My friend is a huge XJ fan and has two of am!
He disabled the electric locks because they never worked right!
